Wendy Vecchi Classes

Last weekend Wendy Vecchi came to Memory Bound store in Ankeny, Iowa and I was able to take 2 of her classes. I had an absolutely fabulous time!!! This is a picture of me and Wendy.

The first class was a technique class. This is a picture of all the tags I did. We used Distress Inks, Paint Dabbers, and Adirondack Pigment Inks.

The second class I took was a Maya Road mini chipboard book . This is a picture of my whole book put together.

At the beach ATC

The base is corrugated cardboard with some of the top ripped off... painted with Adirondack paint dabbers blue and white.. brown and white dabbers pounced around the edges. Flourish (Studio 490) stamped with white dabber. Girl collage image (Quietfire Design) cut out with deckle scissors and added to card. German scrap silver fish colored with Sharpie markers and added front half to card. Took a scrap of vellum and stamped the flourish on it with Adirondack pigment inks cloudy blue and snow cap... glued it to card leaving the top loose to roll forward a bit. Bird is punched from white cardstock and colored with distress inks. "By The Sea" handwritten, cut out, edged with distress ink.

Chipboard Hanging

Maya Road Chipboard scalloped circle... colored with distress inks... stamped a Studio 490 background that was "inked" with a mix of distress ink sprayed with Perfect Pearls on a craft sheet and also stamped with another background using Adirondack snow cap pigment ink. Bird is stamped onto grungepaper with Adirondack pigment ink and cut out... stamped flourish with Adirondack jet black and added white highlights with Inkssential pen. Inkssential pen also used to make white dots. Leaves are stamped onto grungepaper with distress ink, cut out and then Distress Stickled. Words stamped on a scrap of background made with distress inks. Butterflies punched from same.

Birthday Card

A birthday card for a friend. Backgrounds made with alcohol inks. Stamp from Studio 490. Border punch - Martha Stewart. Gold Smooch used to make the gold dots.

Wedding Card

Couple image (The Stampsmith) stamped onto glossy white cardstock using Archival Ink jet black, color added with chalks and then sprayed with Krylon workable fixative. Quote image (LennaLines) also stamped with jet black. Red cardstock layer embossed with Cuttlebut folder. Chipboard heart (Maya Road) colored with gold paint dabber, edged with red glitter glue and 2 gem stickers added. "Stitching" done with Micron pen.

ATC Springtime Dreams

Not sure (that would be can't remember) what I used for color on the background of this atc. Leaves image (Studio 490) stamped along bottom. Collage image (Paper Imagery Designs). Paper flowers (Prima), glitter glue in the centers. "Springtime Dreams" computer generated.

Dove Wrappers

The saying on each one of these atcs came from a Dove candy bar wrapper. I tore them out, layered them on a scrap of brown cardstock, tore that and went around the edges with the brown Adirondack paint dabber. The background for each of these started with some paper a friend and I did quite some time ago. We each took watercolor paper, covered it with either heavy gel medium or molding paste (Golden brand), pressed in bubble wrap (I used a piece with small bubbles over part of the paper and a piece with large bubbles over the rest), let it mostly dry, pulled off the bubble wrap, finished letting it dry and then painted it. For these atcs I cut the bases from this paper and then stamped a text image over the pieces and took the brown paint dabber to the edges. Next I layered on various things I had laying near my space...

this first atc has grungepaper flowers cut with the new Tim Holtz Alterations die (stamped with Studio 490 dots) and a small Maya Road velvet flower in the center.

This 2nd atc uses paper ribbon (punched from white cardstock using a Martha Stewart punch and colored), paper flowers (Prima) and gems, and a metal butterfly (Making Memories).

This is a felt flower (don't know who it's from) and a metal flower (Spare-Parts).

Some ATCs

Happy Saturday!!! Yes, I'm still around... we have been very busy working on the addition that is getting closer and closer to being done!! I have fit in some art time over the past couple of months and will making some posts today to share those items.

Here I'm sharing 3 atcs. All 3 use Studio 490 stamp images and mostly distress inks. The small butterflies and the small bird are all punches. The large bird is stamped onto grungepaper using Adirondack pigment ink, cut out and the words stamped on using Archival ink jet black... white dots added to the word "FLY" with the inkssential pen. Black dots added to butterfly atc with a Glaze pen. Stitching added to bird atc with a Micron pen.

Create A Memory ATC

More Distress Inks, Studio 490 stamps, and new Tim Holtz Alteration Sizzix dies. The Alteration dies are so awesome and cut so well!!! Here again I'm using some flowers - the 2 smallest - and one of the flourishes. I layed the flourish on where I wanted it, cut off what didn't fit and then added back on to the atc - it's the piece at the top left of the flower. The background is another piece using Wild Honey ink spritzed with Sunflower gold PP on a craft sheet, lay in the white cardstock, dry and repeat until you want to stop. The image stamped along the left edge uses the kissing technique... inked the floral border with barn door, pressed it onto a checkered background image that was inked with pumice, and then stamped it onto the atc. The flourish is inked with crushed olive and stamped with Archival jet black. The red flowers are inked with barn door.... the smaller flower looks like a different color because it's the back of the grungepaper and stamped with jet black. The yellow flower is wild honey and stamped with jet black. "Stitching" done with a micron pen. Dots added with a black Glaze pen.

Birthday Card For A Friend

This picture is not the greatest... it's a little dark and it gets darker on the left but the card didn't. I used all Adirondack dye inks on this except for the black which is Archival Ink. All stamps are Studio 490. The flowers are cut from grungeboard using the new Tim Holtz Alterations die tattered florals. The smallest and largest flowers are inked with sunset orange and the middle flower is inked with peach bellini. The background uses a way cool technique that Wendy Vecchi demoed at CHA 2010 and Ranger has a video on their website here of it. I colored white cardstock with meadow and clover and the stamping was done with caramel spritzed with sunflower perfect pearls and water. The leaves in the top left corner are stamped with meadow and also the scallop along the bottom. Gold paint dabber around the edges of the cardstock layers. Green sticky-backed pearl in the center of the flower. Black glaze pen for the dots. Oh, and I spread some Distress Stickles spiced marmalade on the largest flower.

ATC - Find Delight in the everyday Things

A couple of weeks ago when I was finishing up the tag in my last post (which I like alot) and thinking about some atcs I needed to make for a swap on the EverythingWendyVecchi Yahoo group it occurred to me that I could morth my tag into an atc so I did. Everything is pretty much the same except I used yellow sticky back pearls instead of snaps. I like it!!!

One thing I forgot to mention in the tag post... I used Rock Candy Distress Stickles on the largest flower after coloring with Victorian Velvet ink.

Find Delight in the everyday Things

I love this saying stamp from Studio 490 (Stampers Anonymous). Actually all the stamps used on this tag are Studio 490. For the background (a Tim Holtz technique) I used Distress Ink wild honey... rubbed the pad on a craft sheet, spritzed it with Perfect Pearls Sunflower mixed with water in a mini mister bottle, and layed the tag in it. Dried it, tapped it in the left over puddles, and dried it again. The fern leaves are done using the Kissing Technique Wendy Vecchi is talking about on her blog... but I inked the leaf with green pigment ink and then pressed it onto a checkered background image that was inked with purple pigment ink, then stamped the leaf onto the tag... cleaned the stamp and repeated for each stamping. I also stamped one on a piece of the same background done on cardstock and cut it out. The darker flowers are inked with distress ink victorian velvet, the lighter ones are spun sugar ink, and the "yellow" ones are wild honey. All black ink is Archival Ink jet black. The edge of the tag is inked with bundled sage. Ideology snaps in the centers of the flowers.

Patterned paper and text paper for the background. A little stamping in the upper left corner (Studio 490). Collage image. A Maya Road chipboard heart inked with Distress Ink barn door and then a gold heart charm layered on top of it. I rubber a black paint dabber over the gold heart getting the paint into the letters and then rubbed off the extra... of course before attaching it to the chipboard heart. Words computer generated. Jillibean ribbons, Prima flower, button and thread.

Dream ATCs

The backgrounds of these atcs were made by taking scraps from 3 different patterned papers, tearing them into pieces, glueing them on the atc blank and then inking over the piece with Distress ink old paper and adding a darker ink, probably vintage photo but I can't remember for sure around the edges. I added the collage images that had been cut out with deckle scissors and the edges inked with distress ink. Decided to glitter it up just a bit by spreading some Rock Candy Distress Stickles around the images. The centers of the Prima flowers are brads that I covered with Flower Soft.

Blog Awards

I've received this award from 2 people this month, both with wonderful blogs... Lotsa Scrap From 2amscrapper and Inkin' It Up. I'm very honored to receive this especially since I have not been a very good blogger the past several months. I have many wonderful blogs listed in my side bar, any of them would give you wonderful inspiration so if you have time, visit them all!!!!

A set of bird ATCs

I really like how these atcs came out. The background started with the wrinkle free distress technique using distress inks. Next is stamped a Studio 490 background image with distress ink.. then a strip of text patterned paper added.. white paint dabber through a piece of sequin waste in a few spots.. and a Studio 490 leaf image stamped with Adirondack meadow ink. The bird collage images are from Retro Cafe Art. Word stamp is from A Muse Artstamps... stamped on white cardstock with jet black Archival ink, cut out, edged with distress ink. Paper flowers with gold Stickles in the center.

Birthday Card

I made this square card (a little over 6 inches) for a very special friend... two things she likes are flowers and music. I layered a pink and yellow flower... both simple kirigami another friend and I were playing with one day... the center is a metal flower brad. It's attached over an old piece of music paper that I used distress ink and glimmer mists on... also distressed the edges. The base is folded cardstock and I did a little sanding around the edges. Light pink crystal flourishes in two corners. A tag hanging from the center of the flower. O, and faux stitching around the edges of the music paper with a black micron pen.

A New Day Chipboard Hanging

This is the project I made for the second part of the EverythingWendyVecchi Grungepaper Rose Swap. The rose on this hanging was made by Kim... isn't it beautiful!!!! Once again I've used all Studio 490 stamps, distress inks, Archival ink for the saying, Maya Road chipboard pieces (base, frame, bird), Distress Crackle Paint on the bird, old music paper colored with DIs, sticky backed pearls, twine, and Ideology swivel clasps for the hanger. The variation in color on the leaves was done by sponging on the ink, flicking it with water and blotting up.

Celebrate Today ATC

All stamps on this atc are from Studio 490. I used Wendy Vecchi's Pigment and Pearls technique here (this link is part 1, at the bottom click newer post for part 2 and then again on part 2 for part 3) for the background using Adirondack sail boat blue for the ink and gold perfect pearls. Flowers colored with Adirondack Pigment purple twilight. Green ink is Distress Ink pine needles. All black ink is Archival Ink jet black. Black dots are done using Glaze pen. Ideology snaps upside down for flower centers and film strip ribbon along bottom.

Thinking of You Card

It beautiful outside this morning in Southern Iowa with the sun shining and not much wind... we won't think about the temperature being only 6 degrees :-)

All stamps used on this are Studio 490. The background of this card began with a piece cut from the paper I had been working on top of for the past couple of weeks... mostly, if not all, distress inks. I then stamped the large alpha/numbers along the bottom and the small alphabet over not quite all of the rest of the piece using Archival ink jet black. Then I stamped the grid pattern over part of it "inking" my image with the white paint dabber... all be sure to clean your stamps right away when stamping with acrylics. Used a paper distresser along the edges and inked them with black soot. The flower and butterfly are stamped on grungepaper, cut out, and sponged (love the Ranger blending tools) with distress inks. White dots on the butterfly are done with the Inkssential pen. On the center of the flower I used a brad to attach an Ideology foliage flower that is embossed with Distress Embossing Powder mustard seed. The antenna of the butterfly are just two thin strips of black cardstock. "thinking of you" is also stamped on a piece of scrap of the "work on top of" paper, edges inked with black soot, layered on a piece of black cardstock. The printed twill is from Jillibean Soup. A piece of sequin waste along the left under the flower. Folded card is black cardstock.

Chipboard Hanging

I am lovin' working on chipboard. I really hadn't done this before finding Wendy Vecchi's blog and then joining the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo Group. This hanging was made for a Valentine's Swap on the group. All stamps are from Studio 490. For the hearts... I colored a scrap of grungepaper with worn lipstick distress ink - I just rubbed the ink pad directly on the grungepaper - then stamped the corner image from the Art By The Number set using white paint dabber onto the colored grungepaper and cut out the heart shape using the center scallops as the top of the heart. The chipboard heart (Maya Road) was inked with brushed corduroy distress ink and the background image stamped with the same ink. I added fired brick to the very edges of the heart. The flower stamp and saying were stamped with jet black Archival ink. The ideology token was colored with alcohol ink, dried, white paint dabber worked into the impression and the extra wiped off the disc. I then used my finger to rub Matte Accents over the piece so it wasn't quite so shiny. The white highlights on the stem and dots around the edge were done with the Inkssential pen. Holes for ribbon hanger were made with the Crop-a-dile.

Metal Tin

I've been collecting Ten Seconds Studio products since taking the class with Linda Cain last summer. I placed a large order with them when they had a big sale the day before Thanksgiving so my wonderful hubby could give it to me for Christmas... yes, he was all for the idea. Finally I've used some for the top of this tin. The metal is dark chocolate and I used 3 different molds for the impressions kind of collaging them together. The tin was colored with Ranger Alcohol Inks. All stamps are Studio 490 except the little flower around the edge of the tin, that a Stamps by Judith stick image. Stamping was done with Archival ink jet black. Flowers, leaves, and butterfly were stamped onto grungepaper, cut out, and sponged with distress ink. For the large flower I cut out an extra center to layer on top for added dimension and after sponging with scattered straw added scattered straw distress Stickles. Large flower colored with fired brick. Small flowers colored with worn lipstick and stamped with speckled background. Buttons threaded with red metallic floss, tied on the back and tails left long to stick out. Just a little bit of scattered straw stickles added on top. Leaves colored with peeled paint, flicked with water and blotted up water - this created a natural looking variation in the leaves. Butterfly is sponged with mustard seed and white dots added to body with Inkssential pen... antenna made with craft wire. Saying is stamped onto polished stone background (done remember exact color of alcohol inks but also used some pearl mixative), "stitching" added with ultra fine sharpie. The tin has a diameter of about 5 inches.

Snow Day ATC

One more ATC for the Byhand Artists group swap. I've gone with the blue and orange combination color theme. The girl is an image from Paper Imagery Designs. She was sepia toned and I sponged on Distress Ink spiced marmalade... then to bring the muff and collar back out again I used the Inkssential white pen and Souffle orange pen. The background is wrinkle free distress done with Distress Inks broken china and dusty concord... spiced marmalade on edges. The snowflakes (Tim Holtz image) is stamped with faded jeans. Two layers of white cardstock torn for the bottom section coated with Distress Stickles picket fence. Small dots of picket fence stickles over background and also dots of white Inkssential pen. Three snowflake buttons added (shanks cut off). "Snow Day" hand written, cut out, edged with broken china.

Roses, Roses

These roses are made following the tutorial on Wendy Vecchi's blog here. The first 3 were made recently for a swap on the EverythingWendyVechhi Yahoo group. They all use grungepaper and distress inks. The blue has music paper glued to the grungepaper, broken china and black soot inks, rock candy Distress Stickles. The yellow is mustard seed ink, stamped with Studio 490 speckled background, and I used deckle scissors to cut the flowers out... Love the edge this made. The red flower is fired brick and stamped with a Studio 490 background.

Two of these next roses - the blue and orange - were made last year after Wendy posted her tutorial... distress inks and stamping on both and they were also both sprayed with perfect pearls gold. The pink one I just made recently. I painted the grungepaper with Distress crackle paint, after it was dry sponged on some distress ink and also used gold paint dabber on the edges, made the rose and then coated the petals with rock candy Distress Stickles.

Studio 490 Projects

I made both of these projects last month. This first one I did right after Christmas with some new Studio 490 stamps I got for Christmas. The base is a page from a Maya Road Chipboard book. I used Distress Inks and black Archival Ink. The background is colored with broken china and stamped with brushed corduroy. Stamped the floral border image along the bottom with black and then the larger flower image on the left side also with black. The flowers are stamped on grungepaper, cut out, colored with fired brick and spiced marmalade and the speckled background stamped onto the larger flowers in black. Flowers layered and an Ideology snap attached to the centers. I decided the large stem and leaves weren't separated from the border image enough and so went over them with black Glaze pen to darken them. The Maya Road chipboard frame was colored with brushed corduroy and also stamped with the speckle image. The quote is stamped onto white cardstock, sponged with broken china, and attached behind the frame. Black dots added around edges with Glaze pen. Ideology chain and mini paperclips for the hanger.

This second project was done for the Christmas Mod Challenge on the EverythingWendyVecchi Yahoo group. The challenge was to use Studio 490 stamps to make a Christmas project without actually using a Christmas stamp. Again I started with Maya Road Chipboard. The houses are Maya Road chipboard minis. The background is colored with Distress Ink broken china, flicked with water and the droplets blotted up with a paper towel. Alpha background stamped with broken china. Lightly pressed white paint dabber over bottom area of background. The "large snowflakes" - actually a Studio 490 flower image - were stamped with white paint dabber and then filled in with picket fence Distress Stickles... added dots of picket fence stickles between the large snowflakes. Houses colored and stamped with distress inks. Picket fence stickles added along roof and on window sills to simulate snow. "Home For Christmas" was computer generated, colored with distress ink, cut out, added behind Ideology filmstrip ribbon and attached to the chipboard using the Ideology mini attacher. Quote stamped on white cardstock, tore out, colored with distress ink and added as shown. Pine branches punched from green cardstock, pressed lightly with white paint dabber and attached as shown. Ribbon for the hanger.
