Inch By Inch Book

My newest project for Quietfire Design is an Inchie book and some inchies. This is just a couple of the pictures... you can find more pictures and step-by-step directions in the project gallery on the QF site here.

A Little Birdie Told Me

After I got done with the canvas (see last post) I still had the other piece of cardstock I used to make the background for "Cherish" and just had to do something with it. I cut out this image of Bella (PID - Paper Imagery Designs), glued it on, cut out the bird, glued it on, added the flower and rhinestone, wrote the words on another scrap of background, cut them out, and added them also.

Canvas

This is a 4" x 5" stretched canvas. I glued on a piece of old text and a piece of old sheet music using golden soft gel medium, let that dry. I then painted it with fluid acrylics Phthalo green and white including the sides, let it dry, and then added more white in the area where the head would be and sponged more green around the edges, let that dry. Cut out and glued on Bella (PID - Paper Imagery Designs). Next I added the felt flower ribbon wrapping it to the sides. This canvas had staples showing on the sides so I wrapped a 1/4" gold metallic ribbon around the sides to cover them. The gold "beams" on either side of the cherish piece are cut from soffit venting (more info here on using soffit vent), formed, hammered flat, coated with Krylon gold paint pen, and after that was dry used Stickles gold glitter glue on them. They're attached to the canvas with gel medium and the Cherish piece covers up the ends. For the Cherish piece I started with white cardstock, slapped on some white gesso, added in some green paint, and then layed another piece of white cardstock on top and pulled them apart. This made a wonderful texture in the piece. "Cherish" (Quietfire Design) was stamped with Stazon Timber Brown ink. I cut the piece out and sponged more green paint around the edges. I put some foam mounting tape on the back center, top and bottom being sure not to put it where the piece would overlap the "beams" and also added some gel medium to the back just to be sure it adhered well and stuck it on. The butterflies were punched from leftover scrap after cutting out Cherish, used a Sharpie marker to darken the centers and glued them on.

Created Byhand Challenge

This weeks challenge on Created Byhand is tags. This started as a manilla tag and it was stained with coffee (I have several of these sitting around from a past project). The tree trunk and grass at the bottom were done dtp with the edge of an inkpad. The leaves were stamped with a variety of inks and I also sponged on some ink to simulate a big thick tree. The quote (Quietfire Design friendship sheet) was stamped with Versafine onyx black. The birds are extra images on some of the collage sheets from PID - Paper Imagery Designs. The bigger leaves at the top are punched from white cardstock rubbed dtp with green ink.

Sassy

Do you like this atc? I had a lot of fun making it. The image (Mia from PID - Paper Imagery Designs) is transferred onto muslin using soft gel medium. I was excited the transfer worked so well. I cut the edges and frayed them. The background is cut from a piece of upholstery fabric I got from a friend a long time ago and I stamped the flourish (Quietfire Design) using gesso. I glued the image down with gel medium just enough to hold it in place, then I sewed along 2 edges using silver thread and doing a chain stitch. Along the other 2 edges I put down a rub-on border and also added a bit to the upper right corner. The velvet flower was picked up a while back from the clearance section of Walmart. The ribbon under the flower was white silk ribbon (Quietfire Design) and I colored it using Ranger color wash spray. "Sassy" was also on the Mia collage sheet, I cut it out, sponged on some ink and attached it.
Paper Imagery Designs now has a Yahoo group. We'll be sharing art, having contests and challenges, there will be specials posted just for the yahoo group, and lots of other fun stuff. You can check it out here.

Caught in Canvas

I made this book a few weeks ago as a test run for the new kit Suzanne at Quietfire Design is now offering. It's a very fun book to make and I just love it!!!! The directions are fabulous with wonderful pictures to help in understanding the stitches, etc. You can learn more about this new kit and enjoy other projects in her current newsletter here.

TMTA

The theme this week on Think Monday Think ATC is Women in Art so I've used a young woman on this atc. The image is from PID - Paper Imagery Designs and her name is Sarah. I stamped a crackle image (Paper Inspirations) around the edges with Distress Ink vintage photo and also sponged some ink on the edges. The saying is from Quietfire Design and it's stamped using Versafine vintage sepia. I added a piece of lace along the bottom.

Stencil Spritz

Everything about this card just sort of happened today. I was in the middle of a completely different project... that I needed to get in the mail... and I had my color wash sprays out. So I'm working away and... boom... my mind suddently switches to brass stencils and what if I spray the brass stencil and take a print. I couldn't let it go, went and dug out a brass stencil and just had to try it... real quick :-)) The stencil I used it is a Dreamweaver's stencil and one of the newest ones I've gotten from Quietfire Design. It has 2 beautiful butterflies on it. What I did was hold the stencil above my craft sheet letting it lay on my finger so I wasn't touching any edges or the front. I sprayed it with diluted color wash sprays wild plum and butterscotch, layed the stencil carefully on some scrap paper so I didn't disturb the front, took a piece of white cardstock, layed it on the stencil, pressed well, and took it off. It worked!!! Way cool!!! I did a few working to get a little better print.. varying the amount of spray etc... and then I was good and set it aside, finished my other project and got it in the mail :-)) After that then I took one of my prints and made this card. I tore out the print and stamped the calligraphy image (Quietfire Design) with Versamark and embossed it with detail black. But... the words weren't straight, which bugs me really bad and so I was trying to figure out if I could do something to save it rather than toss it. It was already torn too close to the butterflies to re-tear it... So I thought about laying it on at an angle to make the words straight but having a layer crooked would have bugged me too... I had to find a way to make it all look right. I decided to layer it on green and then poked holes and added the metallic thread... it evened things up and made it look like it was supposed to come out that way. I think I succeeded. In the process I got a card I really like. I layered the green to pink and then to a deep pink folded card.

Friendship is a sheltering tree

This is one of my favorite calligraphy stamps from Quietfire Design and it goes so well with her little tree stamp. This is an atc. The background is color wash sprays and I stamped an old leave image all over it. The saying is stamped with Versamark and embossed in white. Stamped the tree on a metal rimmed tag and sponged ink around it.

4 x 4 Friday - tickets

This weeks theme on 4 x 4 Friday is tickets. The background was in my pile... I'm pretty sure it's Color Wash sprays sprayed on a craft sheet and cardstock pressed in it. I stamped the animals with Distress Ink walnut stain and the leaves with Vivid spring green. The words were computer generated and I used a ticket punch to punch out Imagination... sponged it with spring green and drew the line with a Micron pen. The boy is a collage image from PID.

TMTA - black and white

The current theme on Think Monday Think ATC is to use black and white. The background for this atc is done by rubbing Distress Ink black soot on a craft sheet, spraying it with water, and pressing the cardstock into it. The black and white collage image is from PID (Paper Imagery Designs). I stamped the flourish (Inkadinkado) onto the image using Stazon Opaque white. "Sarah" is white rubon letters but after getting them on I didn't think they stood out enough so I went over them with the white Souffle pen and also added a little black shadowing with a Micron pen. The butterfly is cut from some Making Memories trim.

Dream ATC

The background is one I just had around... I think it's color wahs sprays, probably diluted... maybe sprayed onto a craft sheet and the paper pressed into it. The stamp and collage image girl are both from Quietfire Design. Trim is from Making Memories. The butterflies are cut off some trim.

Sweet Clara ATC

I know... the last thing we want to think about right now is winter!! This past one seemed to go on forever, not to mention the record snowfalls and ice storms we had. But this little girl image from PID is just so adorable I had to use her. The base of this atc is a deep red cardstock. Next I've covered a piece of watercolor paper with Distress crackle paint faded jeans. After it was dry I stamped a small snowflake using Stazon opaque white. Tore a piece of printed paper and layed it across the bottom. Cut out just the girl and log from the image and layered her on. The words are also cut from the collage sheet. The snowflake charms are from Quietfire Design. They came gold and I used a silver Krylon paint pen on them.

Altered CD

The Project of the Month for May on A Monthly Rubber Stamp Club is an altered cd that I made. The collage image is from Quietfire Design. If you subscribe to the POM section on AMRSC, you can find a detailed description and step-by-step photos.

an ATC and a special from PID

I got my first shipment from PID (Paper Imagery Designs) and they are all beautiful images!!! I made this quick atc using "Andrea"... isn't she cute!! The background was done with VersaMagic ink hint of pesto and purple hydrangea dtp. The flower spray (Penny Black) was stamped with purple hydrangea. I cut out Andrea and glued her on. The purple at the bottom was done with the end of the dewdrop inkpad, dots and flourishes made with a gold gel pen. Gold flower border is a sticker (peel offs) and 'gift' is a rub-on.
***** For the month of May PID is running a grand opening special... buy 2 collage sheets and get one free of your choice. CBC - Charms

The challenge this week on Created Byhand is to use a charm or charms on our art. This is an atc. The base is a chipboard atc (Quietfire Design). The border is done with the tip of the VersaMagic dewdrop inkpad purple hydrangea. Then I stamped the flourish image (Quietfire Design) with VersaMagic wheat several times. The collage image (Quietfire Design) was printed on presentation paper, cut out, and glued on with soft gel medium. Words were computer generated. Crown charm is from Quietfire Design. Gold dots around edge were done with a gel pen.

By The Sea ATC

The background of this atc was created using white gesso and Ecoline inks. I dripped some gesso on the white cardstock, then added a couple drops of ink and spread it around with my finger. While it was still wet I stamped the large flourish on it using VersaMagic ink. Let it all dry. Printed out the collage image, cut it out, added color to her suit with chalks, rubbed the edges with VersaMagic ink and glued it on using soft gel medium. Next I drew some swirls with a clear glue and put on some blue glitter, decided I didn't like that at all, rubbed gesso thinly over that area which dulled the blue glitter but if you tip the card you can still catch highlights of it... turned out very cool. Added some more blue Ecoline ink over the area using a wet paint brush, let that dry and stamped the flourish image over it using white gesso (don't forget to clean your stamp right away). Glued on the shells. Stamped "by the sea" with one of those alphabet wheel stamps on white cardstock with VersaMagic ink, cut out the words, sponged on more ink and glued them on. Sponged silver Krylon on the edges. Collage image, Ecoline watercolour inks, gesso, VersaMagic inks, glitter, and flourish rubber stamp can all be found at Quietfire Design.

Soffit Air Venting

Last Monday I shared this atc that used an altered piece of soffit air vent on it and I had some people ask about the venting and what it looked like before I started so I've taken some pictures to share. I also asked my husband about the stuff so I could give you a little more info. There are different kinds of venting you can get and the stuff we are using comes in 8 ft sections.

This first picture shows just part of an 8 foot piece.

And here is an even closer picture.

Here I've cut off one section from the end.

Cut off the wide parts at each end.

Now you just pull the ends around into a "fan" shape.

And lastly you use a hammer to get everything to lay flat working with it so the pieces are spaced evenly.
