Circle Journal Book Back

Hello!!!  Last year into this year I participated in a Circle Journal Swap.  The word circle because the journals went from person to person until your own journal came back to you.  It was the second swap for this group but my first time playing along.  I had sooooooooooo much fun!!!!  Loved seeing the journals as they came by me and I love having my book back with the word of 11 other people in it.  I have individual posts of when I made my journal and then the page/s I did in each of the other people's journals.  I'll link those below in case you missed the posts or you'd like to go back to look again.

The pictures in this post are my book back filled with wonderful art journaling.  THANK YOU!!!  to each person that created in my book.  It was so very exciting when I got my book back and even now to just sit and flip through it!!!  I've been slow to take pictures and share but it's not because I don't love it!!!     Enjoy!!!!

Sing ATC

Hello!!  Third post this week... pretty good for me lately :-)

I've created another ATC for a couple of challenges.  The Simon Says Monday Challenge which is ATCs and the More Than Words Mini Challenge which is to use the word "sing" on a tag, card, or atc.

I started with an ATC sized piece of glossy cardstock.  I stamped the music notes (Quietfire Design) multiple times with Rangers Watermark Resist Ink and dried it.  It's inked over with Distress Inks Mustard Seed and Salty Ocean, dried, splattered with water, blotted and dried.  I stamped the quote and bird (both Quietfire Design) with Archival Ink Jet Black (Ranger).  I drew around a jar lid twice for the circles and then added some zigzags.  I stenciled in the top left and bottom right corners with a Tim Holtz stencil and Distress Oxide Ink Lucky Clover.  The leaves are die cut (Sizzix, Tim Holtz), inked, shaped and glued on.  The edges are inked with Distress Ink Peeled Paint.  I used a waterbrush to put water inside the bird, let it sit briefly, blotted it and dried it.  I then added detail back in with a Pitt Artist Pen (white), a waterbrush and Salty Ocean Ink (blue in the body of the bird) and a Distress Marker (brown in the beak area).

Nature is Full of Genius

Hello!!!  I've had a play with one of the Quietfire Design brand new stamps.  The best way to see them all is in the What's New category on the website.

I began with a piece of watercolor paper, added Distress Oxide Salty Ocean over the whole piece with a mini ink blending tool, dried it, and while drying added splatters of water with the Distress Sprayer.  I lined up the quote using the Tim Holtz Platform and stamped it a few times with Archival Ink Jet Black giving me a nice dark image.  Using Suzanne's ECD stencil (this is the perfect stencil for this time of the year as you have both a leaf spray and a snowflake spray) I applied Ranger's Texture Paste Transparent Gloss as shown.  One the paste was completely dry I applied foil (Therm-O-Web Gina K Designs Silver Sequin) using a laminator.  *I love this technique* and *I've become a foil fool*  LOL.  Around the edges is Bo Bunny Silver Glitter Paste.  The final touch is a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Snowflake that I sprayed with Pearl Mica Spray.

Live Simply ATC

Hello friends!!!  It is a beautiful day in Southern Iowa!!  The sun is shining, the weather is nice, and the grass has greened up from the rain this past week!!

The challenge this week at Simon Says Monday Challenge Blog is ATCs.  I love atcs.  I have 100s of atcs... but it has been awhile since I made one.

I began with an atc sized piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavyweight.  The flower (PaperArtsy Kay Carley PS060) is stenciled with GrungePaste (PaperArtsy).  Once dry I added Infusions (PaperArtsy) Frankly Scarlet, Lemoncello, and Golden Sands along with lots of water letting everything flow together and immediately started drying it with a heat tool.  Once dry I splattered it with water, blotted it and dried it again.  Next I added Nuvo Crystal Drops Ivory Seashell on top of each little dot and let that dry.  This made all the dots pearly.  They did draw up a little color but that is fine.  I used a pen to add some black shadows along the lines of the flower and then a white gel pen in a scratchy manner on top of the lines along with some doodling in the center.  White paint splatters over the whole piece.  Fresco Finish Metallic Acrylic (PaperArtsy) Pewter was added around the edges and dried.  Black pen doodling around the edges.  I then also used Embossing Ink (Ranger) and Wow! White Puff Powder around the edges.   A sticker from the Small Talk pack (Tim Holtz Idea-ology) was cut, layered onto white cardstock, cut out and attached.

Discover Adventure

Hello!!!  How ya doin'?  I took a little time to play this morning and created a #8 tag for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.  The theme this week is Nautical

I started with a #8 Distress Mixed Media tag, created a background using Distress Oxides Broken China, Salty Ocean, and Frayed Burlap.  I stenciled over this (Tim Stencil THS080) using Distress Ink Salty Ocean and inked the edges with Distress Ink Frayed Burlap.  "Discover" (Tim die set 660224) was die cut from black cardstock, layered onto a left over scrap laying around, edged with Frayed Burlap and attached with an Index Clip (Idea-ology).  The handsome young sailor is from the Photo Booth Pack (Idea-ology).  I've layered it onto a piece of burlap (Tim's surfaces) that I aged with Distress Crayons and water.  Other Idea-ology's used are Compass Coin, Spinner, Filmstrip Ribbon, Small Talk Stickers, Tiny staples.  On the Small Talk Sticker I've used a bit of Distress Crayon.  Final touch is some drops of Enamel Accents Caribbean Coast (Ranger Ink).

Simon Says Monday Challenge Celebrates 7 Years

Simon Says Stamps is celebrating their birthday and therefore the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is to create something birthday related.  I've made a birthday card.

The background starts with a left over shaving cream background.  I applied Nuvo Mousse Mother of Pearl over the whole piece and then applied Nuvo Mousse Pink Flambe through an Andy Skinner stencil.  Along the bottom I put Wendy Vecchi White Embossing Paste through a Tim Holtz stencil, added Wendy's Embossing Powder (Sky Blue & Cornflower Blue) to the wet paste and then heated it.  I sprinkled some sky blue here and there and then did the rest with cornflower.  I didn't wait for the paste to dry but melted the powder right away.  I quite like it!!!  The script stamping in the background is done with a PaperArtsy Sara Naumann stamp using Wendy's Archival Ink Sky Blue.  There is also some sky blue around the edges.  The shells are cut using Elizabeth Craft Design's dies.  I cut the solid part from white cardstock and applied Nuvo Mousse Pure Platinum to the pieces.  I cut the outlines from gold cardstock.  Behind the shells is some cheese cloth; behind that is some foliage.  It's actually from the Tim Holtz Holiday Greens set.  I cut two from deep pink cardstock.  I used deli paper between the die and the cardstock.  The pink pieces have a little Pure Platinum on them.  I attached both of the pink pieces and the deli paper pieces.  Distress Paint Black Soot is splattered over the piece.  The Tim Holtz die cuts 'happy birthday' are cut from black cardstock.

Beautiful Life Butterfly with Wildflowers Resist

Hello on this beautiful Tuesday!!!  We've gotten some rain in the last week but not nearly enough.  It has cooled down some though and I'm grateful for that.  Today starts cool, will have lots of sunshine, and the highs are to be in the mid 80s.  A very nice day!!!

For this card I'm working on Ranger's Glossy Cardstock.  The Wildflowers (Stamper's Anonymous, Tim Holtz) are stamped with Watermark Resist Ink (Ranger).  Over this I've applied Distress Inks using Mini Ink Blending Tools and then buffed my surface with a paper towel.  Around the edges I've stitched using Eclectic Elements thread (Tim Holtz).

The butterfly (Stamper's Anonymous, Tim Holtz Flutter Set) is stamped with Archival Ink jet black (Ranger), twice.  The whole butterfly and then just a body are die cut (Sizzix, Tim Holtz Flutter Set) with the matching dies.  Color is added with Distress Inks.  For the body piece I scored down the back of the body and bent a curve.  This worked fabulously and really gave an authentic look to the butterfly.  I stamped the head/antenna area of the butterfly onto my panel and then glued on the die cut butterfly leaving the wings free of glue.

The words (Sizzix, Tim Holtz) are cut from Linen (Tim Holtz Surfaces) attached to cardstock, inked with Distress, and cut again from just cardstock inked with Distress, layered and attached to the card.

I've used two gilded rub-ons (Tim Holtz Idea-ology) beside the words.

Tea For Two, Me For You

Hello there!!!  I had a play creating an art journal spread with my inspiration being 2 challenge blogs and a Share With Sizzix challenge.

The "Share With Sizzix" is to use Tim Holtz's Flutter Stamps (Stamper's Anonymous) and Flutter Framelits (Sizzix).  The 3 butterflies I used on the spread are from these sets.  They are stamped with Archival Ink jet black onto Mixed Media Paper, die cut, and then color added with Distress Inks and Markers.  The antenna are hand drawn after gluing the butterflies on the page.

This week's Simon Says Monday Challenge is Food and/or Drink.  My first thought was tea as I'm a huge tea drinker.  My second thought was chocolate because, well, I love chocolate.  As you can see tea won out.

One of the reasons tea won out is because of this month's main challenge at More Than Words which is Harmony & Song Lyrics

Since I already was thinking about tea the song that immediately popped into my head was Tea For Two.  That song just made an impact on me as a child and never left.  I think it goes well with the word inspiration, Harmony, because a good marriage has harmony.

This spread is done in a small Dylusions journal.  The pages already had some Dylusions paint on them and I built from there.  I really worked at not overthinking and going with things instead talking myself out of ideas.  It was fun.  The cup is hand drawn on cardstock that already has a small butterfly pattern debossed into it, cut out, and color added.  There is Texture Paste Opaque Crackle (Ranger Ink) through a stencil (Tim Holtz).  The couple is from Idea-ology Paper Dolls (Tim Holtz).  The small Wildflowers (Stampers Anonymous, Tim Holtz) are stamped with Distress Oxide Inks.  Composer Tissue Tape (Tim Holtz Idea-ology).  I used my Dymo for the song lyrics.  The tea label/string is real.  The stenciling around the sides and top (TCW stencil) is done with Distress Oxide Ink.
