You Would Live Next Door

Happy Friday!!!  The weather this weekend is looking to be pretty good with rain just overnight Saturday to Sunday.  Hopefully we won't get too much as things are still quite wet with the 2 downpours we've already had in the past week.

Here's a fun card using another of the newest stamps from Quietfire Design, In a perfect world.... this is part of a 4 stamp set!!

I started with Dylusions paints - fresh lime, vibrant turquoise, and London blue - starting at the bottom and just blending as I went from color to color.  I stenciled over this - at the bottom I used Dylusions number jumble... I used the lime sponge but it had a little of the turquoise on one edge of it from blending which gave me the darker green spots.  Over the top of the card, I used the Dylusions stencil flower medley with white paint and then also added in a little of the turnquoise in spots.  The quote is stamped with Archival Ink jet black.  For the "horizon" I used a Stabilo pencil and then blended it with a water brush.  I dabbed gold paint around the edge and somehow managed to to get a spot on the card so in an effort to hide it, I laid a paper towel over the bottom area of the card and sprayed the top part with Perfect Pearls Mist sunflower sparkle.  I love how it sparkles as the card is moved and it makes me think of sunshine.   The houses are from the Quietfire Design set, Flourished Flight.  I stamped them with Archival Ink, magenta hue and tiger lily, onto white card and cut them out.  The hearts are punched from white scraps, glued on, and just a hint of shading added.

Glory

I had so much fun making that Christmas card for the Quietfire Creations blog yesterday that I had to make another one.  This time I used one of Quietfire's older stamps but one I love.  I began with a 1/4 sheet of cardstock and brayered on Dylusions paint in red and green in a random pattern not overlapping too much or you get brown (red and green are opposites).  I actually started with one color and did a piece of paper and then took a second piece (without adding more paint) of paper and continued and, of course, the second piece was lighter as there was less paint on the brayer and then repeated that sequence with the second color.  The piece I used for this card is the second piece with the lighter brayering.  Over the brayering I stenciled (TCW mini circle explosion) with white paint.  At that point I was out of time for the moment and when I came back later and decided where I wanted to stamp the quote I realized I needed that area to be lighter.  I sponged on snowcap pigment ink in an area large enough for the quote.  I stamped the quote with Archival Ink jet black and embossed it with clear powder.  Next I cut a rectangle around the quote.  I edged it with red paint and then gold and set it aside.  I continued to work on the rest of the background.  I stenciled the poinsettias (TCW mini Merry Doodles) with green paint.  Using a red Posca paint pen I scribbled red inside the leaves.  I splattered on some white and black paint, added some gold dots and edged the outside and inside edges with gold.  This is layered to a green panel, ribbon wrapped around it and the center panel attached with 2 layers of foam mounting tape.  It's all layered to a folded red card and a Prima poinsettia glued on.

Gift Tags

This first tag is made to be a gift tag to go on a package.  The sentiment is a new stamp from Quietfire Design.  We often pick things up for someone special because the item would be perfect for them and this stamp is a great way to let them know that.  For this tag I've combined it with fun stamps from PaperArtsy by Darcy from the set EDY13.  In the background I've used Fresco Finish paint (smurf, lavender, beach hut) and PA stencils, PS015 and PS018.  The quote and flowers are stamped with Archival Ink jet black directly on the tag and then the flower heads are again stamped on a scrap of painted (Fresco Finish candy floss paint) card.  The white small flowers are stamped with Fresco Finish snowflake paint and the centers are done with a Posca marker.  The flower stamped on scrap are cut out and and additional color added to them with either paint or marker and then a Posca pen is used for the white dots.  These were glued on top of the stamped flowers.  Finally I added some dots in the background with beach hut using the end of a paint brush.  The ribbon is dyed with extra beach hut paint and water.

This last tag I actually made and used for a gift a couple of weeks ago.  It was quick and easy to make.  The background is sprayed with Dylusion inks.  The leaves (PaperArtsy) are stencil with paint.  The dots (TCW) are stenciled with paint.  The scripture (Our Daily Bread Designs) is stamped with Archival Ink jet black.  A piece of washi tape, paper flowers, and a brad finish it off.

Worry - Strength Journal Spread

Happy Saturday!!!  It's been a busy week.  We are working at putting new siding on our house... you know, in addition to the rest of the usual life things.  It's going to look great but definitely takes longer than you think it will.  In-between I've been working on this journal spread in the Dylusions small journal we received in class this past Saturday.  Quietfire Design has new stamps!!!!  I specifically wanted to use the Worry quote on a journal page.  This is such a great quote and I'm thrilled Suzanne has penned it out and made it a stamp.  As you can tell, I've also still been in Dylusions mode :-)  I've used Dylusions paints in the background and also on an extra piece of mixed media paper to use for the flowers combined with stencils and also a little stamping.  All the stamps I've used (except for the QF quote) are Dylusions stamps.  I used Dylusions ink to color in the open leaves.  I die cut a scalloped rectangle from plastic packaging to make a mask (and I also have the other part which makes a stencil) to lay over the quote and then sponge black paint.  All doodling/dots done with either a white gel pen or Posca markers.  I also splashed about some watered down white and then pink paint.  When stamping I've used Archival Ink jet black.

Ice Resin and Tissue Wrap

Hi There!!!!!!!!!!!!  These are some earring made back in February that I didn't get blogged yet.  I coated some Idea-ology Tissue Wrap with Ice Resin, front and back, punched out the flowers, used Archival Inks on the back to add a little color, attached the large and small flower together with a brad, put an eyelet in the top and added the ear wires... done.  Quick and easy in the assembly.  The longest part is waiting for the paper to dry.  I suggest doing it when you have to walk away for the day or your going to bed for the night unless you're very good at leaving things alone :-)

Classes With Dyan Reaveley

I had a FABULOUS time this past weekend attending 3 classes at Memory Bound Scrapbook Store in Ankeny, Iowa being taught by Dyan Reaveley.

Here we are!!

Saturday was an all day class focusing on her paints.  The goal was not to finish pages but to learn about her paints and techniques using her paints. We each got one of her small journals and we worked both on individual sheets torn from the book and in the book itself.  Yes, we learned how to put the pages back into the book.  Below are pictures of just some of the pages worked on in class.  They are ready to be added to and built upon.

Sunday there were two classes.  The first class focused on her sprays and the second class was using her stamps.  Again, finishing pages was not the goal but learning about the products and techniques for using them.  The classes were ALL wonderful and Dyan is a really good teacher.  I would highly recommend any of her classes!!!!

Fear Not!!!

Good Day!!!!  I have a fairly quick and easy card to share with you!!  The background uses an embossing folder (Cuttlebug).  I inked the folder with Distress Inks, put in the white cardstock and ran it through my Vagabond.  I need to get better at not smudging it as I close the folder :)  The scripture is an Our Daily Bread Designs stamp.  It's die cut with a Spellbinder's die, some inked added around the inside before removing the die and then Treasure Gold applied to the frilly edge.  Some washi tape, paper flowers inked with DI, and layering finish it up.  Oh, I also distressed the edges :)

In All Things Wood Canvas

Happy Tuesday to you!!!!!!!!!!  I hope your week is going well.  It's HOT here in southern Iowa.

I began this project with an 8" square wood canvas.  A quick rundown for the base.... gesso, grungepaste through the PaperArtsy stencil PS006, paint (I used Distress paint for this part), stenciling with white (PaperArtsy snowflake) through TCW mini tiny circles stencil, Treasure Gold white fire applied with my finger, and flicking on of both white and black paint (PaperArtsy snowflake and little black dress).  The scripture is a Our Daily Bread Designs stamp and it's cut out with a Spellbinders die and some Distress ink added.  The butterfly is a Tim Holtz stamp, fussy cut, colored with Distress inks and wire used to make the antenna.  I used Microglaze on both of these stamped and inked pieces so they are sealed and protected.  The leaves are cut from grungepaper with a Tim Holtz die, painted, stamped with Archival ink and some of them sprayed with Perfect Pearls mist.  The flowers are old Prima flowers and I have Liquid Pearls in the centers.

Every Day Is A Blessing

I hope you've been following along with all the fabulous new releases from PaperArtsy this week.  They've been showcasing different designers/collections/sets all week.  Click HERE to go to their blog.  Wednesday and Thursday showed all the new Lin Brown stamp sets - LOVE!!!  This panel uses a flower and stem from set ELB23 and the words are from set ELB22.

My super talented friend, Michelle, was over last Friday for a visit and we played a bit.  She suggested a play with glue as a resist and then using watercolors.  I showed her my new stamps and we had to include flowers.  I don't have a picture of hers (she used a different flower, etc) but this is what I did.  The flowers are stamped with Archival Ink and then glue and we also made swirls and dots of glue in the background and dried the glue.  This was on watercolor paper.  At this point, since I wasn't too sure of what I was doing, I mostly watched her and then somewhat attempted to imitate what she was doing.  Her's looked so much better :)  Besides watercolor I also used a white gel pen (you can see that mostly in the narrow areas of the flowers) and also smudged a charcoal pencil around the flowers for shading.  I also splattered some paint.  Finally I decided to add some Glossy Accents in the center of the flowers and on the ends of the stamens.  After I was done messing with it and it was dry, I trimmed it down.  I attached some of these trimmed off pieces at the top and bottom of the panel and also stamped the words on one, cut them out, glued them on and added shading with a charcoal pencil.  I'm really pleased with the final product!!!!

A Million Little Things

I started with a #10 manila tag and cut the length to 5 1/2".  The background is sponging Distress Inks, flicking with water, and stenciling white paint through sequin waste.  The quote is a Quietfire Design stamp.  Isn't it fabulous!!!  Suzanne pens these quote by hand and then turn them into rubber.  I've used a PaperArtsy Lin Brown stencil for the leafy stem applying tinted white embossing paste through the stencil.  Once it was dry I added shading with Distress Ink, white lines with a Posca paint marker and when the marker was dry went over it with a Distress marker to tone down the white.  White doodling around the edge.  Twine at the top and wrapped around the tag.  The Quietfire Design butterfly was stamped with Distress Ink fossilized amber onto Specialty stamping paper, dried, fussy cut and glued on.
