Fun time at Class

CCC #13 and #14

Well, I'm late for challenge #13 so I've combined it with challenge #14.  Last week was quite busy and the weekend was very busy...  I was partially done with my #13 but realized I just wasn't going to get it done on time... then Monday evening I'm checking for the new challenge and was thrilled to see that the tag I'd started already included the #14 technique already... Amazing!!!  and then I told myself it would be just fine if I had only one tag for both challenges, LOLOL... actually I argued just a little at first but things have been crazy and I gave in to the one tag for 2 weeks idea :-)) 

Distress inks used are mustard seed, wild honey, barn door, and dusty concord.  Music paper glued to grungepaper before cutting the tattered florals.  After the flowers were inked I spritzed them with gold perfect pearls (mixed with water in a mini mister bottle).  The stamped flourishes (Tim Holtz) are colored in with a red Glaze pen.  The flowers are wired together, an Ideology accoutrement in the center and the ends of the wires twirled.  Tiny attacher staples around the edges and I colored the tops with a purple Sharpie except for the 2 holding the lace, I colored those with a red Sharpie.  I used my finger to rub Gold Paint Dabber on the silver butterfly charms and also added a little purple Sharpie near the edges.

Another Birthday Card

I am really having fun using these new Quietfire Design hearts to make flowers!!  Here I've used both sizes and layered them.  Inks used for stamping the hearts are Adirondack raspberry and pink sherbet.  The center of the flower is a gold button with the shank cut off.  Cut a couple of Tim Holtz flourishes from a light green paper and embossed them with a Cuttlebug folder from the Oriental Weave set.  For the background I used an Inkssential craft sheet.. rubbed on raspberry and pink sherbet ink... spritz it with a mix of gold Perfect Pearls and water.. pressed in the white cardstock... dried it... pressed, dried, pressed, dried, until I like it and then repeated using Adirondack citrus ink.  The picture below better shows the shimmer from spritzing with the Perfect Pearls mixture instead of just water.  The flourish is stamped in the corners with raspberry ink.  Happy Birthday is stamped onto white cardstock with Archival ink jet black and cut out with a die from Spellbinders labels 4.... sponged with inks and some glitter dome sticky back gems added.  That is a gold ribbon wrapped around the background under the sentiment. 

CCC #12 - Chipped Enamel

This weeks technique for the Compendium of Curiosities challenge is way cool!!!  I totally love the results.  Linda has all the information on her blog Studio L3.  Amazingly I've only used one stamp on this tag (across the top and bottom) and it is a Tim Holtz image... stamped with Archival ink coffee.  Distress ink colors used are spun sugar, aged mahogany, mustard seed, shabby shutters and just a hint of black soot around the edges. 

Quietfire Design Project and Sale

Card

Butterfly stamps is from Quietfire Design.  Weeds stamp is a Tim Holtz (Stampers Anonymous).  Scripture is computer generated.  Distress Inks --  on scripture panel are antique linen, brushed corduroy and black soot... on the background are bundled sage and brushed corduroy.  Stamping on the background panel is done with Archival ink coffee.  Extra butterfly is stamped with Archival ink olive.  Tim Holtz Ideology key. 

SSSS challenge - Layers

All stamps on this ATC are from Quietfire Design.  Cut an atc sized piece from an old manila folder... inked it with Distress Ink old paper... embossed it with a Tim Holtz folder (rays)... inked over it with DI forest moss... added more ink around the edges DI brushed corduroy and black soot.  Stamped flourish bird house on manila scrap with Archival ink coffee, cut it out, added a bit of DI antique linen to the "hole" and around the edges.  Tim Holtz bird die is cut from grungeboard... inked with DI stormy sky... part of a flourish stamped on wing and a white pen to make the bird eye... DI brushed corduroy on edges of bird and wing.  4mm white silk ribbon tied around neck and antique linen rubbed over with blending tool.  "Home" (from Home is the heart of life stamp) stamped on a scrap of manila with black, cut out, inked.  A strip of brown cardstock makes the pole.

So I have layers of ink, some layered cardstock, layered grungeboard wing.  This is for the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge this week which is layers.

Created Byhand Challenge

The themes this week on the CBC (blog or forum) are I remember or the color red.  All stamps are from Quietfire Design.  The background of this standard size card is white cardstock done with the Tim Holtz wrinkle free distress technique using Distress Ink spun sugar and tea dye... music stamped over it with VersaMagic sahara sand... the corners flourish stamped with VersaMagic red magic not reinking the stamp as I stamped down from the corner giving a fading look... edges are distressed using the Tim Holtz paper distresser and inked with red magic... this is layer onto a folded red card.  Used Quietfire's new flourish heart (small) to create the flower... stamped it 8 times on white cardstock, cut them out, placed a large glue where I wanted the center of the flower to be, layed down my "petals", added the red brad to the center of the smallest Ideology time piece and glued it on for the center of the flower.  The stem and leaves are made with 4mm white silk ribbon colored with VersaMagic inks oasis green, hint of pesto, and aloe vera. 

Happy Birthday

This is a card for our granddaugher but it also fits the theme for the Created Byhand Challenge which is You Say it's your Birthday.  The flower is made from Quietfire's new Flourishing Inside Heart stamp (the largest one).  I stamped it 4 times each on white cardstock with Adirondack dye ink sail boat blue and purple twilight and cut them out leaving a small border of white.  For the background it's the Tim Holtz wrinkle free distress technique using the same inks and spritzing with a mix of gold Perfect Pearls and water.  Happy Birthday (also a Quietfire Image) is stamped on white cardstock with purple twilight, torn out, edged with purple twilight and then also with gold Paint Dabber.  The background is also edged with purple twilight and the gold Paint Dabber.  After determining where I wanted the flower, I put a large glue dot where the center would be and then placed the points of my "petals" on the glue dot.  I added a gold button (shank cut off) in the center and a row of gold sticky back gems around it.  Gems also across corners and one near the sentiment. 

CCC and SSSS

How's that for some abbreviations, lol.  CCC - Compendium of Curiosities Challenge... we are on #11 which is page 36 - Blended Batik... head on over to Linda's blog for all the details.  SSSS - Simon Says Stamp and Show... the challenge this week is Anything... Lord Tim of Holtz inspired.  This week has been very busy and so I made one entry for both challenges.  All stamps and doo-dads are Tim Holtz.  I used Distress inks spun sugar, bundled sage, and forest moss... and there is lots of Tim Holtz Ideology.  See the memo pin up there.... I used a technique that Wendy Vecchi shared on her blog here... I layed the pin over the letter D on a piece of Tim paper and added the glossy accents, after it was dry I cut around the pin. 

New Rubber from Quietfire Design

Quietfire Design has several new rubber stamps and I've used a few on this 4 x 4 (the quote and the 2 hearts).  The other stamps are also QF images but not new.  I started with white cardstock cut to 4" x 4" and added some spun sugar distress ink to it.  I then stamped the alpha and tiles with clear ink and embossed with clear...  I added barn door distress ink over the whole piece... placed a blank piece of copy paper over the 4x4 and ironed off the embossing powder... added some fired brick distress ink around the edges and then decided to add wild honey over the whole piece... the background is finished up with some black ink around the edges and the quote stamped on top with black ink.  The hearts are stamped on scraps of white cardstock with Distress Ink fired brick, cut out, and the edges inked with wild honey.  Tied the ribbon around the 4x4, added the hearts lifting them with foam tape, and finished up by adding an Ideology corner. All supplies used are available from Quietfire Design.

Live... in Metal

Not sure how the colors are on your screen... they are off on mine... the flowers and base card are all purple not the bluish they are looking to me.  The gears background and "Live" are both done with Ten Seconds Studio metal and molds and a wheel for the edging on Live... rock star black metal for the gears and plum metal for "Live".  The green strip is Appletini metal cut with a Tim Holtz On The Edge die and embossed with the Dotmatrix Tim Holtz folder.  Flowers and large gears are grungepaper cut with Tim Holtz dies.  The gears were colored with Distress Ink black soot and dabbed with silver Paint Dabber.  The darker bottom petals of the rose are colored with DI dusty concord right on the grungepaper... the rest of the rose and other flowers were colored first with Adirondack pigment ink snow cap and then with dusty concord.  All flowers stamped with the Wendy Vecchi dot background image.  Black sticky back gems in the centers of the flowers.  The smallest flower is the same flower as the other one but I cut off about half of each petal.  White Enamel Accents for the dots around the cardstock base and on the grungepaper gears... Black Enamel Accents for the dots on the letters.

SSSS - THE Wendy Vecchi - Studio 490 Style

This weeks challenge on Stimon Says Stamp and Show is THE Wendy Vecchi - Studio 490 Style.  I'm a big fan of Wendy and her stamp line... and can hardly wait for her new Art Parts release to start showing up in stores!!  I decided to make this bird for the challenge.  The base is a piece Maya Road Chipboard in the shape of a bird.  I used Wendy's technique of first coating with Adirondack snow cap pigment ink, drying it and then using distress ink over it.  I LOVE the look... light and soft and chalky... way cool!!!  All stamps used are Wendy stamps.  Flowers are Tim's tattered floral cut from grungepaper... the smallest flower is the same flower as the other one but I cut off about 1/2 of each petal... works perfectly if you need an even smaller flower than the die cuts.  Ideology foliage, jump rings, and philosophy tag.... and on the tail, film strip ribbon cut into thirds, fanned out, and stapled on using the tiny attacher.  Enamel accents for the center of the smallest flower and on top of the brad in the center of the metal flower. 

CCC #10 - Distress Stickles

I LOVE Distress Stickles... I love that they are not really glitzy (not that glitzy is bad but sometimes you just don't want total glitz)... I love that the glue dries matte, not glossy... and I love that you can dry them with your heat tool.  So of course I love that this weeks Compendium of Curiosities Challenge is Distress Stickles :-))  Page 46 of The Book.  All the particulars of the challenge can be found on Linda's Blog including prize information.   All stamps used on my tag except the leaves are Tim Holtz.  The leaves are Wendy Vecchi Studio 490.  Background --  Distress Ink weathered wood applied over the whole tag with a blending tool and foam, dried with a heat tool.  DI dried marigold rubbed on the craft mat, sprayed with water, tag pressed in and then dried.. repeated pressing and drying to get all the nice blotches of ink.  Next I stamped a weed/flower image several times with DI victorian velvet and dried it... then covered the whole tag with Rock Candy Distress Stickles.  This caused the weed images to bleed a little but that was ok.  Dried the rock candy with the heat tool.  Added a piece of tissue tape, stamped the small diamond background image below the tape with Archival ink jet black, added DI black soot around the edges of the tag giving a very cool look because of the stickles.  Added some dots with black Enamel Accents.  The bird was stamped onto grungepaper with jet black and cut out, colored with DI broken china and faded jeans...Distress Stickles broken china added just to the wings and tail - the head and body left without for a nice contrast.  One dot of black Enamel Accents for the eye.  Rose was made from the largest flower on the Tattered Florals die... cut the pieces from grungepaper for the rose, colored them with DI victorian velvel, stamped them with the cracked image (Ultimate Grunge set) using Archival Ink coffee, assembled the rose, added Distress Stickles tattered rose to all the petals.   Leaves were stamped onto grungepaper with Archival Ink olive, cut out, colored with DI peeled paint, flipped them to the backside, stamped with cracked image using olive ink.  Added a bit of peeled paint and victorian velvet to the soar ticket and popped it into a memo pin.  Assembled everything as shown.  To finish it off I colored some raffia with victorian velvet, dried it, stamped using the cracked image and coffee ink, dried it, put it through the whole and used a mini pin to hold it. 

Everything Beautiful

I scanned this card and maybe should have used the camera instead to show off the flower better.  It is a Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 image... I stamped it on white cardstock with Versamark ink, used Sticky Powder to emboss it and then pressed on composition gold leafing... I can't remember exactly which kind of leafing this is (I have it in a box, no label) but it has a variety of colors in it.  I also did a second one of just the flower part, not the stem so I could cut it out and pop it on top for dimension.  I colored the white cardstock with Distress Ink barn door, sprayed it with water, dried it and edged the piece with brushed corduroy and then black.  The music is old music paper made to look even older with antique linen ink and brushed corduroy around the edges and also stamped with Studio 490 circles background image with Archival Ink coffee.  Scripture stamp is from Our Daily Bread Designs stamped on white cardstock with Archival Ink jet black and again I used antique linen and brushed corduroy.  The butterflies are punched from red cardstock and stamped with Studio 490 dots background image using Archival Ink coffee.  Gold sticky back pearls on the butterflys and a translucent goldish color sticky back gem on the flower.

Simon Says Stamp and Show - Things With Wings

A brand new challenge started this past week - Simon Says Stamp and Show - and the first challenge is Things With Wings.  Two of my favorite things with wings are butterflies and dragonflies so I've used one of each on this ATC.  All stamps are Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 and all ink is Distress Ink.  I started with a piece of white cardstock sponging it with mustard seed, faded jeans, and wild honey using a blending tool and foam... splattered some water on it and dried it... sprayed it with a Perfect Pearls gold mix to give it some shimmer.  Stamped the flowers with Archival Ink jet black and added some black around the edges of the atc.  The butterfly was stamped onto grungepaper with jet black, cut out and colored with mustard seed and a bit of wild honey... the white Inkssential pen brought the word "FLY" out a little better.  Be a Designer of Dreams was stamped on a scrap of white cardstock with jet black, cut out, sponged with mustard seed and a bit of wild honey on the edges.  Ideology film strip ribbon attached using the Tiny Attacher.  Butterfly and words glued on with Glossy Accents.  Jute string wrapped around.  Dragonfly charm wired on. 

CCC #9 - Distress Crackle

The weeks are just flying by so quickly!!!  These challenges will be over before we know it :-((  This week we are on page 42, Distress Crackle.  As always all the particulars can be found on Linda's Blog, Studio L3.  I first colored my tag with milled lavender and tumbled glass and then used Tim Holtz's retro circles embossing folder on it... added broken china and a little bit of brushed pewter Crackle paints.  Once those were dry I went over the whole tag with brushed corduroy and removed the extra off the crackle paint with a damp cloth.  Dots (Tim Holtz stamp) were stamped with coffee Archival.  The image is from Tim's Lost and Found Paper stack, cut it out, added Rock Candy crackle over the top, let it dry and added it to the ornate frame... I wish I had avoided the face or had used my finger to make it very thin over the face... next time.  The grungepaper flourish and flowers (Tim Holtz dies) were colored with tumbled glass or wild honey... the flourish was then embossed with the dot matrix and the flowers with retro circles... brushed corduroy added lightly over the flourish and on the edges of the flowers.  I also used my finger to add just a touch of silver paint dabber on the flourish.  Added some coffee ink to the string.  Ideology mini fasteners at the top corners and jump rings and a token hanging at the bottom.  The brads used in the flowers are from Michael's recollections line. 

Tag Swap

Susan is hosting a tag swap Studio 490 style on the EverythingWendyVecchi Yahoo Group and these are my tags.  I'm assigned a large tag, #8, with horizontal orientation.  I started by cutting the end of my tags with the Tim Holtz On The Edge die scallops... added Distress Ink wild honey to the whole tag and brushed corduroy around the edges... stamped the circles with Archival Ink coffee, the dots with Archival Ink olive, and the leafy image with Archival Ink jet black.   The saying is stamped on a piece cut from an old manila folder with jet black... wild honey to color with barn door and brushed corduroy around the edges and black on the very edge.  Flower was stamped with jet black on grungepaper, color added with barn door and bundlled sage, text stamped over just the flower part with coffee and then the whole thing cut out.  Two birds were stamped on grungepaper with Archival Ink crimson for each tag... one was cut out whole and the other just the wing cut out...  birds and wings colored with worn lipstick.  Black Glaze pen for the bird eye, dots along bottom of saying and added over dots of leafy image.  An Ideology snap added on the flower and fibers to finish it off. 

Created Byhand Challenge - Welcome or Yellow

This weeks Created Byhand Challenge is to use the theme Welcome and/or the color yellow.  I went with yellow.  All stamps are from Quietfire Design and most of the products are also available from them.  I cut a piece of watercolor paper and also a piece of chipboard using the Tim Holtz ornamental die.  The flourish is stamped onto the watercolor paper with Versamark ink and embossed with clear powder... next I brushed Ecoline ink #205 lemon yellow over the whole piece using a damp brush and then went around the edges with Ecoline ink #337 yellow ochre... blotted up the extra and let it dry... then the flourish was stamped with Versamagic ink oasis green as shown and finally the watercolor piece was attached to the chipboard piece.  "Inspire" is stamped on a scrap of white cardstock with Archival ink jet black, distress ink scattered straw applied around the edges using a blending tool and foam, piece cut to fit opening in ornate plate and plate attached to base with brads.  Versamagic ink cloud white was rubbed on some scraps of grungepaper and dried... butterflies stamped onto these scraps with Versamagic purple hydrangea and dried... butterflies cut out and only bodies glued to piece as shown.  Sticky back white pearls added to butterfly bodies. 

CCC #8 - Inking Grunge

The current challenge for Compendium of Curiosities is found on page 39 of the book - Inking Grunge.  The details for this challenge are found on Linda's blog.  All stamps used on my tag are Tim Holtz.  Tim Holtz dies used are caged bird, tattered florals, and elegant flourishes... all cut from grunge and inked with Distress Inks.  Stamping over the distress inks is Archival Ink coffee and cobalt - except for the flowery flourish on the background, that was distress ink brushed corduroy.  The "create" piece is Ten Seconds Studio metal dijon, a TSS mold, and wheel for the edges.  Ideology hitch, jump rings, and token.  Black Glaze pen for the dots.

Metalized ATCs

The Ten Seconds Studio Yahoo group is having it's first swap which is atcs and of course the focus is metal.  They did not have to be all metal but most of mine is.  The flower background uses Kabuka mold #10 and the word laugh is from Kabuka mold #9.  The flowers are embossed onto peacock metal and laugh onto hot pink diamond.  After embossing the flowers I attached the piece to chipboard for a solid base.  Laugh was attached to grungeboard and then cut out.  For the flower I attached squares of gold nugget metal to grungepaper, die cut with the Tim Holtz fabulous floral die just cutting the one flower that I wanted and then used a Tim Holtz embossing folder burlap to emboss it.  The center flower brad is a Spare Parts by Paper Studio.  Out Loud was computer generated, cut out, and inked with Adirondack raspberry.  That's a Tim Holtz Ideology memo pin holding laugh. 

by the sea ATC

The collage image on this atc is from Quietfire Design.  The background is one I did a long time ago... you lay a piece of cardstock on a hot plate and then use color crayons on the paper... they melt from the heat.  Be sure and use a piece of tin foil or parchment paper on the hot plate before your cardstock.  The colors and swirls of the wax were perfect for water.  Colored the cheesecloth with Glimmer mist... added charms and little beads.  The seahorse was actually gold... I dripped alcohol ink (espresso) on it, dried it, and then lightly sanded the high spots for more depth (the picture doesn't show it so well).

Believe in your dreams

The July Challenge for Paperbag Studios is flowers.  All stamps I used are from Paperbag Studios.  I began by cutting some heavy chipboard using the Sizzix Alterations Tim Holtz Ornamental die.  I stamped the script image twice along the right side with Versamark Ink and embossed it with clear powder.  Distress Inks broken china, mustard seed, and wild honey were added to the chipboard using a blending tool and foam... flicked some water onto the chipboard, let it sit just a bit, blotted it up and dried it with a heat tool.  The single flower was stamped onto the chipboard with Adirondack snowcap pigment ink.  The girl was stamped onto a scrap of white cardstock with Archival Ink jet black and colored with Distress Inks tumbled glass and mustard seed... I then used a wet paintbrush over the face area, blotted it and dried it to lighten it up.  Chalks were used to add the pink color to the lips and cheeks.  I tore the image out and layered it to a scrap of text paper colored with Distress Ink antique linen.  Glaze pen was used to color the flower and a sticky back gem added to the center.  "Believe in your dreams" was stamped on a scrap that I tore from around the girl and cut out.  Flowers punched from scrap cardstock, colored with Distress Ink broken china and then Glaze pen.  Lace, images, and flowers were added as shown.  "Stitching" added with the Inkssential white pen.
