Classes with Finnabair

I drove over to Lincoln, NE this past Saturday and took 2 classes with Finnabair at Pages in Time.  I really enjoyed both classes and learned quite a lot.

The classes were very busy with not much time to think about having the camera out, but I did manage to get one picture of Finnabair.

The first class was a mixed media collage on double canvas.  I couldn't fit the long canvas (actually 2 canvases attached together) into my light tent and get a picture of it, lol!!!  This first pic I took it outside.  The second pic it is laying on the floor in my creative area.  The rest are in the light tent just getting partials.  The color is more true on my screen in the pics taken inside.  After finishing the canvas, we can choose to separate them like THIS ONE on her blog.  I haven't decided if I'm doing that or not.  There are a couple of things I would do different now that the canvas is done but that's ok, this was for learning!!  I'm really glad I took the classes!!

The second class was called "Pretty in Grunge" and is a 12 x 12 piece.

We got to create "clusters" in both classes...  once I got going, it wasn't as hard as I thought.  It's one of those things where I need to just do and not over-think it (something I tend to do)!!!

With Sympathy

Another sympathy card...  it's rather sad how many of these I've needed in the past year.  I guess that happens as we get older.

I started with a piece of PaperArtsy's Chatsworth paper cutting a piece to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8".  Next I stenciled (PaperArtsy Lin Brown PS004) the flowers with Fresco Finish paint using the bump technique (chocolate pudding first; then a mix of nougat, claret and caramel; zesty zing and a mix of limelight and hey pesto on top).  Distressed the edges and inked with Distress Ink walnut stain.  "with Sympathy" is an Our Daily Bread Designs stamp, stamped with Archival Ink jet black, punched the oval and inked with Distress Inks.  The butterflies are die cut, inked and stamped.  I wish I had added a little pink to the butterflies but it's too late for that. A piece of lace ribbon and black gems to finish.

Fishy Happy Birthday

The background is Distress Ink - tear a scrap of paper, lay it on white cardstock, add ink with a blending tool, move scrap and ink again and continue up the whole panel.  Flick with water, blot and dry.  Stamp flourish with Archival Ink.  The fish is a Dylusions stamp - stamp with Archival Ink jet black, add color with Dylusions and a water brush, punch circle, sponge ink around the fish and add silver to the edges.  Happy Birthday is a Quietfire Design stamp.

Art Journal Play

I felt like finishing a page - I have so many started.  This page already had various colors of Fresco Finish paint on just randomly (using up paint from other projects) and it was stamped with Ellen Vargo's scratchy circle stamp (PaperArtsy #EEV02) with snowflake Fresco Finish.  I added some pieces of tissue tape and then used my finger to add some more paint here and there in colors that matched what was already on the page.  Next I stenciled the flower heads (PaperArtsy Lin Brown stencil #PS005) with Fresco Finish paint using the bump technique which doesn't really show so much since I drew black lines around the flower petals with a bold Pitt pen.  The stem and leaves are painted freehand with black lines drawn with a Pitt pen.  White dots are added with a Sharpie paint marker.  I added some scallops in two places.  I actually painted them first in pink but then decided to go over them with yellow, drew around them with a Pitt pen, then with a Stabilo All pencil going over the pencil with a waterbrush dried it and added white dots and the inside swirl with the Sharpie paint marker.  Punched the butterfly from some soft corrugated packing material, added snowflake paint, glued it to the page and shaded around it with the Stabilo All pencil.  Circled some of the words on the tissue tape with the Sharpie.  Added white paint to the edges of scrabble times to spell play and glued them to the page.

A Rockin' Good Time

A quick card made for a boy that likes music and plays both the guitar (electric or acoustic) and the drums.  Both the guitar and drum image are from I Brake For Stamps.  The keyboard strips are Little B washi tape.  The heart is a Stamps By Judith stamp peg.  The words are hand written.

June's Happy Birthdays

All three of these cards were for June Birthdays.  Life was busy so I started all of these at the same time and made the backgrounds the same.  I used white cardstock, a Crafter's Workshop stencil, translucent embossing paste, Dylusion sprays, and Perfect Pearl mist.  Lay the stencil on the cardstock, add paste, take off stencil, while the paste is still wet, spray paper with Dylusions and then Perfect Pearls mist.  Leave the papers to dry.  Next I added the flowers and stems (PaperArtsy Lin Brown stencil #PS003) with white embossing paste and let it dry.  I colored over the flowers and stems with either Fresco Finish paint or Posca paint markers.  The Happy Birthday's are Quietfire Design stamps.

The turtles are ggDesigns stamps.  The centers of the blue flowers are buttons with the shanks cut off.

The center of the yellow flowers is beaddazzles glued on with a large blog of Glossy Accents.  (When I put the paste on for one of the yellow flowers I actually got it too thick and it cracked - oh, well).

I am entering these in the July 2014 Mixed Media Card Challenge.

Wired Flowers

It all started when I saw THIS POST and also THIS POST  on Holly Eastabrook's blog.  I loved Holly's wired flowers and promptly sent links to one of my BFFs, Michelle, as she was coming over for a play day.  Michelle also thought they were great and, yes, this would be a good project for the day.  Michelle and her bouquet are the first pictures below.  The paper she used for her flowers is vellum and she colored it with alcohol inks.  She's much faster at working then me and got hers done the afternoon she was over.

I didn't get mine finished that day but did finish it up (pictures below).  I also used alcohol inks for color but used them on white glossy paper.  I also added Distress glitter to my flower petals after they were put together.  I needed something to put my flower in so got out an old vase and crackled it.  A technique that Wendy Vecchi shared on her blog last year I think.  Brush a coat of glue 'n seal on the glass, let it dry, put a coat of Distress Crackle paint rock candy on and let it dry.  I then colored the crackle with alcohol inks and brushed over all of it with Glossy Accents.  Sometimes little bit will flake off and I didn't want that so I used the Glossy Accents.  I then mailed it to my daughter and she tells me she loves it.

Another Birthday Card

I was playing with a technique I'd read about and after I was done I had this piece of colored tissue paper left over.  I glued that to a piece of white cardstock leaving lots of wrinkles as I glued it down.  Next I used Wendy Vecchi's Sunburst stencil and sponged Archival Ink through it.  Happy Birthday (Quietfire Design's Happy Birthday Plain & Simple set) is stamped with Archival Ink jet black.  The butterflies (Quietfire Design's Butterflies/Dragonflies set) are stamped on scrap of white cardstock with Archival Ink, cut out, glued on just in the body area and black gems stuck along the body.  The edges of the panel are sponged with ink and the whole thing layered to a white folded card.

Happy Birthday

The background is Idea-ology composer tissue wrap glued to white cardstock, painted, and stenciled (Crafter's Workshop).  I painted a scrap of white cardstock, stamped Happy Birthday (Quietfire Design Happy Birthday plain & simple set) with Archival Ink, tore the paper and layered it to a strip of black cardstock.  Attached the panel to a folded black card.  Punched 6 butterflies from black cardstock (Martha Stewart punch), glued 3 of them flat ont he card, colored the other 3 with Treasure Gold renaissance and glued them over the other 3 leaving the wings up.

Therefore I have Hope

The leaves in the background are stenciled (Wendy Vecchi Lovely Leaves stencil) and Archival Ink leaf green.  The scripture is an Our Daily Bread Designs stamp.  The lacey square and flowers are die cut from a background in my stash I made a long time ago that was created with Radiant Rain mists on watercolor paper, lay plastic wrap (wrinkles are good) over the misting while it's still wet, let it dry and take off the plastic wrap.  I actually did this for an online class when the Cyberstampers site was open.  To see the class click HERE.    The leaves are a Sizzix Tim Holtz die.

A Quick Card

I made this for a high school graduate this Spring.  It was a super quick card because the paper with the ferns stamped on it was in my stash of leftover backgrounds but even if it hadn't been, it's still a quick card.  I trimmed down the background, stamped the scripture (Our Daily Bread Designs) with Archival Ink jet black, inked the edges and tied the twine around.  Next layer is corrugated from a box with green paint (Distress) over the ridges.  All adhered to a folded rust colored card.
